How to Keep Your Marble Clean – a Beginner’s Guide

Marble is a naturally occurring stone that has been used for centuries. It can be used to embellish counters, tables, and even floors and bathrooms. This material is easy to clean, but it needs care and maintenance on a regular basis to stay in great shape. Here, you can discover the finest methods for maintaining marble and preventing surface damage.

How to Clean Marble Floors

Unlike most other surfaces, cleaning marble requires specialized equipment and techniques. It could also be damaged if you attempt to clean it with the incorrect product, towel, or sponge. When working with marble, excessive force could create etching, also known as surface scratching.

Besides “Not-Doings”

The most important piece of advice is to use a pH-neutral, non-irritating soap. Although there are specialized cleaners for marble, dish soap will suffice. Small amounts of soap and warm water in a spray bottle are as effective as a few drops on a moist cloth. Use this sudsy cloth to clean the marble, then rinse and dry it as soon as possible. Excessive soap use may leave a film, so exercise caution.

Use nothing acidic, such as bleach, vinegar, Windex, or anything similar, to clean marble. A lemon wedge requires only a few seconds to begin chipping a marble table. Due to the acidic nature of many rust removers, they should not be used near marble. Marble would lose its lustre if scrubbed with abrasive sponges or chemicals. The same can be said of acidic and basic chemicals.

How to Prevent Sticky Areas

The most effective method for keeping marble clean and free of stains is to prevent it from becoming soiled. If something is spilled on a marble table, immediately clean it up with a paper towel. If possible, avoid cleaning up messes. You will simply scatter the soil around. Keep an eye out for any spilt citrus juices or alcoholic beverages. If there is any remaining colour solution on your skin, wash the area thoroughly with warm, soapy water as soon as possible.

Depending on the type of marble on your floors, you may need to purchase a sealant every month. This will help the marble shine more brilliantly. Using a sealant gives you additional time. Before spills become an emergency, despite the fact that they should still be cleaned up immediately. But the sealant might not work on all marbles, so it’s important to carefully read the label.

How to Maintain Marble

If you spill something on marble and do not immediately clean it, the marble will change color. After cleaning up the mess, you should begin removing the stain. The best way to get rid of organic stains like coffee, alcohol, food, and pet urine is to mix together 12% hydrogen peroxide and a few drops of ammonia. Using acetone or mineral spirits and then water to rinse is the best way to get rid of oil-based stains like cooking oil, milk, etc.

To remove an ink stain from white marble, bleach can be used. However, for dark marble, acetone or lacquer thinner is required. Small paint spills can be cleaned with lacquer thinner, but care must be taken because this could damage the marble.

Polishing Marble to Eliminate Surface Deterioration

To remove hard water stains and etching from marble surfaces, they must be polished. Use dry, ultra-fine 0000-grade steel wool to get rid of water spots and small etchings. If the nicks and scratches are severe, it may be necessary to get a professional to re polish the surface.

Because it’s hard to get stains out of marble, you might want to hire a cleaning service to take care of your countertops, floors, and shower.
